TECHNICAL PROCESS OF PAINTING NEW HOUSE

1. Cleaning and preparing the surface for water-based paint application

• For newly built wall surfaces, it is necessary to allow enough time for complete drying and enough time for maintenance (from 7 days onwards, you can proceed with the painting and puttying).
• Use a grinding stone to grind the wall to remove impurities that affect the adhesion of the putty or paint layers. In addition, grinding the wall creates a relatively flat surface for the wall surface.
• Then use rough sandpaper to roughen the surface and then clean the dust with an air compressor or a clean cloth soaked in water.
• Before proceeding with the puttying step, if the wall is too dry, moisten the wall by using a roller to roll over the wall with clean water.

(Note: Just roll a thin layer, do not roll too much water).

2. Mastic putty in the water-based paint construction process

2.1. Check the required surface moisture

• The required surface moisture must be from: 25% to 30%.
• The surface needs to be too dry to be rolled with clean water before applying.

Note: Cannot update when the content of the report is too dry.

2.2. Mix the putty with water

Check the product's expiry date. Read the instructions carefully.

Pour the putty slowly into the water according to the ratio specified by the Supplier.

Use a machine or hand to mix well.

Wait 7 to 10 minutes for the chemical to take full effect.

Recommendation:

• Do not use water contaminated with alum or salt.
• Only mix enough powder for 03 hours. When finished, do not mix too much.
• Avoid letting sand and dust fall into the putty.

2.3. Puttying

How to mix wall putty:

• The ratio of powder/water = 3 or 3.5 (by weight) means 14 - 16 liters of clean water is needed for a 40kg bag of putty.
• Pour the powder into the water slowly to avoid lumps.
• Use a hand mixer or a stirrer to mix thoroughly until the mixture is homogeneous.
• Leave the mixture for about 7 - 10 minutes for the chemicals in the powder to take effect. Then stir again before proceeding with the construction.
• Construction tools include: Putty knife, putty board.

Puttying the first layer:

• Use a putty board, putty the first layer on the wall, then let it dry for 2 hours and use medium-sized sandpaper to smooth the surface. Use a clean cloth or air compressor to clean the powder dust to proceed with the putty (note that the putty should be applied after mixing with water within 1-2 hours).

Putting the second layer: (Need to clean the powder dust particles so that the next layer of putty adheres better)

• Mix the powder with water. After 24 hours, use fine sandpaper to smooth the surface. (Note: do not use rough sandpaper to scratch the smooth surface of the putty).
• You can use a light to check the flatness of the putty wall.
• Put up to 2 times on the concave and convex areas, then clean the putty wall surface.
• Then use a clean cloth or air compressor to clean the chalk dust particles.
• Let the putty wall surface dry after 24 hours and proceed with the topcoat painting steps.

Recommendation:

• The total thickness of the 2 layers of putty should not exceed 3mm
• Sand the putty surface to finish.
• After at least 12 hours of plastering, use sandpaper from 150 to 180 to sand the plastered surface to create a flat surface for the next stage.
• Use a brush, water or air spray gun to clean all dust on the sanded surface.

Note: This is a very important step that affects the adhesion of the paint film later.

3. Primer application 

Check the product's expiry date. Read the instructions carefully.

Interior and exterior primers can be mixed with clean water, the ratio depends on the paint specified by the Supplier.

The number of primer coats depends on the Supplier's recommendations. Usually 1 coat

Use a brush, roller or spray gun to paint the sanded surface.

Recommendation:

• The primed surface must not be dusty or dirty to avoid separation later.
• The other side of the wall that needs to be tiled but has not been tiled must not be painted.

4. Applying color coating

Water-based paint 1:

This is the most important step to ensure that the paint color is evenly covered and avoid unnecessary waste, so the following steps must be strictly followed:

• Check the product's expiry date. Read the instructions carefully.
• Dilute the paint according to the volume allowed by the supplier.
• It is necessary to mix in the same ratio to avoid color differences.
• Depending on the type of paint, choose the appropriate tools and construction methods.
• Water-based paint 1 requires even painting for the entire construction item, so that the entire surface to be painted has the same color regardless of whether it is dark or light compared to the color code in the color chart.
• If using a roller, roll back and forth to make the paint film thin, even and firmly adhered.

Recommendation:

• Water-based paint should be used up within 05 days.

Finishing color paint:

• The number of finishing color paint coats may need from 01 to 02 coats depending on each color.
• After applying water-based paint 1, at least 03 hours can be used to finish the paint.
• Before finishing the paint, make sure the surface of water-based paint 1 is completely clean.
• You can add more water to the finishing color paint but must ensure compliance with the supplier's recommendations.
• Paint evenly for the entire construction item so that the color is even.

Recommendations:

• Do not add water to the finishing paint to avoid uneven color.
• During the construction process, if paint gets into the eyes, mouth, ears, or nose, wash immediately with clean water and go to the nearest medical facility.
• Excess paint after construction, if mixed with water, should be discarded. When discarded, do not dump it in the open or into wells, ponds, lakes, rivers, or seas. It must be poured into a covered sewer.
• Absolutely comply with the Law on Environmental Protection.
• Excess paint that has not been mixed with water must be tightly covered and stored in a cool, dry place out of reach of children.
• If discarded, drums, cans, and construction tools must be collected in the right place.
